A Washington Sun analysis of Federal Election Commission data shows that more than 50 owners of major North American sports teams donated at least $100 million during the 2026 midterm election cycle. Miriam Adelson, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, accounted for nearly 70 percent of the total with at least $68 million in donations to Republican political committees. The report notes that while Adelson's spending was exclusively for Republican causes, other owners contributed to Democratic causes or split their giving between parties. The analysis covers donations made by owners in the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL between January 1, 2025, and October 14, 2026.
